I appropriate press photographs through the act of re-photographing them. In January 2016, I started re-photographing these images on the screen of my computer to express my sense of powerlessness. The first series, shown here, is about migrants.
The shiny computer screen forms an invisible, yet reassuring wall. I re-appropriate and objectify the photographs. I flash the images with my iPhone to reveal the glass and make the distance tangible.
The pieces were then blown up into huge posters and glued on the pavement of the Place de la République during the Rencontres d’Arles 2016 and 2017. The installations are later re-photographed as they are slowly damaged under the feet of the passers-by and finally disappear, leaving only the trace of their presence on the pavement.
